For members of the Class of 2012, the days at Smith are coming to an end. On Sunday, May 20, during the college's 134th commencement ceremony, 652 undergraduates and 80 advanced degree candidates will receive their degrees and certificates and embark on new paths. The Gate salutes Smith's graduates with this special Commencement Edition.
Four Retiring Faculty Members Toasted by Fellow Colleagues
Every year, the president and provost host a reception in honor of retiring faculty members, offering toasts in honor of their contributions to Smith and to academic life. This year's retiring faculty members are Susan Heideman, art; Dan Horowitz, American studies; Catharine Newbury, government; and Tom Riddell, economics.

Campus Anticipates Talk by Jane Lynch
From the moment it was announced that award-winning actress Jane Lynch would be this year's commencement speaker, the campus community has anticipated her presentation. Working at Commencement and Reunion
For many alumnae who stuck around as underclasswomen to work at various campus jobs during commencement and reunion weekends, it was one of the best jobs on campus—meeting and assisting amazing alumnae, working alongside fellow Smithies, being on campus at the best time of year.
Museum of Art Exhibits in Final Week
If you haven't already, don't leave town without enjoying current exhibitions at the Museum of Art. Soon to close are Pursuing Beauty: The Art of Edo Japan; Susan Heideman's Animalmineralvegetable; and an installation of prints by Janet Fish '60. Also not to be missed: Debussy's Paris, through June 10.
