
To graduate from Smith College, a student must complete 128 credits of academic work and complete a major. In addition, at least 64 credits must be earned outside the department of the student’s major.
All first-year students are required to complete a writing-intensive course. Transfer students are strongly encouraged to take such a course.
At least four semesters of academic work, with a minimum of 64 credits, must be completed at Smith. Two of these semesters must be during the junior or senior year.
The minimum standard of performance is a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all academic work. A student must maintain a minimum average of 2.0 for the senior year.
Normally, the degree is completed in eight semesters of academic work, with 16 credits each semester. A student studying away the junior year must have completed 64 credits. A student entering the senior year must have earned at least 96 credits.
Each student is responsible for knowing all regulations governing the curriculum and course registration and is responsible for planning a course of study in accordance with those regulations and the requirements for the degree.
